About DeannaDeanna McDonagh is a passionate musician, educator, and music therapist based in Galway, Ireland. With music at the heart of her life from an early age, Deanna has built a vibrant and versatile career that blends performance, teaching, therapy, and community engagement. 

 

​A fromer Irish dancer, Deanna developed a deep-rooted passion for rhythm that continues to shape her approach to music today. She has performed professionally on drum kit since the age of 14 and holds a BA in world music, an MA in Community Music, and an MA in Music Therapy from the University of Limerick. She is also certified in Rhtyhm to Recovery and has achieved her Grade 8 Drum Kit exam with Trinity College London. ​

 

Since 2017, Deanna taught at Drumadore Drum School, working with children, teenagers, and adults through both one-to-one and group lessons. She also offers private drum kit, bodhran, and percussion lessons, supporting learners of all levels in developing their musical skills, confidence, and creativity. Deanna prepares students for Trinity College London grade exams, helps students prepare for their Junior and Leaving Certificate music practical exmas, and is a registered digital exam centre for Trinity College London, allowing students to sit their exams locally in a familiar and supportive environment. ​

 

As a freelance performer and session drummer, Deanna has played with bands, jazz ensembles, orchestras, and toured with the renowned theatrical company macnas. In addition, she leads engaging drumming workshops across schools, care homes, and community settings. As a qualified music therapist, Deanna provides one-to-one and group sessions designed to support mental health, mobility, emotional wellbeing, and self-expression through music.
